Canvastique3D

A digital tool for fashion designers enabling real-time preview of handmade designs on 3D garments, built from scratch across web, mixed reality, and hardware.

The Problem

Designers and creators currently find themselves trapped between physical and digital worlds. Prototyping handmade designs on digital products remains cumbersome: it is slow, expensive, and often requires specialised hardware that creators cannot access.

Traditional tools lack the simplicity and tactile creativity that designers need. The gap between physical samples and digital rendering creates friction and lengthy iteration cycles. A designer might spend weeks refining a fabric pattern only to find it doesn’t translate well to a 3D garment. Wasted time. Wasted materials.

The core challenge: how do we bridge the gap between creation and digital visualisation in real-time?

The Solution

Canvastique3D delivers instant, intuitive previews of real-world materials on 3D models. It eliminates the barriers between physical creativity and digital tools.

Real-time material preview on the web

The system captures live camera feed of a physical material (fabric, paint, texture) and maps it onto a 3D garment model in real-time. Creators rotate, adjust lighting, and iterate within seconds.

Ecosystem Overview

The platform spans three deployment targets:

Web

A browser-based app that runs entirely on the client. Users stream a camera feed, select a 3D garment, and see the live preview.

  • Cross-device – works on desktop, mobile, and tablet
  • Any camera – use any device camera or affordable document camera for optimal setup
  • AI integration – process textures and generate realistic renders in-app
  • Export ready – download models with new textures applied
Meta Quest 3 mixed reality experience

Mixed Reality (Meta Quest Beta)

The Meta Quest app enables spatial work. Stream your camera feed from the web portal and see it projected onto the 3D model in mixed reality.

Hardware Integration (WIP)

A custom-built material scanner offering an affordable alternative to expensive professional hardware. Supports both polynomial texture mapping (PTM) and photometric stereo for capturing real materials.

From Concept to Market

2018–2024: Research and Foundation

Explored early version of the concept. Early implementation of a HoloLens device to render an animated model onto which a live camera feed is projected.

2024: Web Platform Launch

Founded Canvastique3D as a business. Launched web platform with subscription model. Refined the material-to-3D workflow based on designer feedback.

2026–Present: Ecosystem Expansion

Launching v2 with free, frictionless web entry point. No login required. All processing happens on device.

What’s Next

The long-term moat is community and brand, not the workflow itself. Any 3D tool can replicate the core feature, but the community is ours. The strategy:

  1. Free web entry point – low-friction discovery
  2. Paid companion apps – Quest and iOS unlock spatial and portable workflows
  3. Hardware integration – professional-grade material capture
  4. Community – gallery, library, shared workspace

The web app is the discovery vector. The apps and hardware deepen engagement and monetize for creators who want advanced capabilities.
